Colored Pencils on Black Paper:

THE BASICS

This is the first class in a series where I'll show you how I create animal portraits with colored pencils on black paper. This combination can be tricky for beginners and more advanced colored pencils artists alike.

I've been drawing on black paper for nearly 15 years and I have developped my own style to make the colors pop rather than sink in the darkness of the paper.

Colored Pencils on Black Paper:

WORKING WITH COLORS

In this class, I'll will teach you an effective way to make colors pop on black paper. I'll share a list of the supplies you need and those that are helpful to have handy.

After sharing with you a few tips, we'll draw together a fox on the black paper. Take your time and follow the step by step instructions to achieve a great result.

CATS' EYES

When you draw cats from reference photos, sometimes the eyes are very well lit and you can see the details very well. But other times they are not as easy to distinguish so you have to play with colors and values to make them look real.

In this class, we'll practice several situations with some nice and not so nice photos. After doing a few small practice sketches, we'll draw a larger, more detailed eye as our final project. Take your time and follow the step by step instructions to achieve a great result.

BACK TO THE BASICS

In class #1, we learned how to draw a crow on black paper with a white pencil. This time around, we'll do the same thing with the portrait of a black cat, and add a touch of color by drawing a simple eye, like we learned in class #3.

Easy Landscape in GOUACHE

In this first lesson, you'll learn how to apply the gouache on paper and how to make gradations of colors.
I'll be using acrylic gouache, but you can use regular gouache, or even acrylic paint if you want to.

Each video is in real time so that you can see the full process and speed when I apply the paint and blend it. Take your time and follow the step by step instructions to achieve a great result.

Easy Landscape in GOUACHE 2

In this second lesson, you'll build on the skills you learned in the first class. We will paint a gradient again, but this time it will cover the entire paper and we'll use more colors. Then, for the fun part, we'll add the black silhouettes of the landscape one layer at a time.

EASY LANDSCAPE IN GOUACHE 3

In this third lesson, you'll build on the skills you learned in the previous classes. You'll paint a sky with watered down gouache, just like watercolor. Then, you'll paint your landscape one step at a time starting with the mid-tones, then the shadows, and finally the highlights.

Introduction to Casein,

a Milk Paint

Casein is a medium similar to gouache; not quite like watercolor and not quite like acrylic.
Join me in this all level class to learn more about it, how to use it, and work on a simple monochromatic painting from start to finish.
We will have an easy start with just a couple of tubes, a few brushes, and some watercolor or mixed-media paper.
